I am totally jealous of all your sweet gear. If I am lucky, I will make a decision between the Nikon D90 or the Pen EP-1. I want the Pen but I cannot afford both cameras. I read some of your articles and I am envious of your opportunities. Guess I’ll have to stick with the D40x and my Sigma DP2 and keep making the best photos I can. Thanks for a neat site! :)

    Hi Lawrence,

I need some of your expert help if I may be so bold as to ask. I have been a big fan of the Olympus E-30 SLR camera and I have spent some considerable monies in getting the top of the range Olympus Zuiko ED and SWD lenses, the ones that I use a lot are the 12-60mm SWD lens and the 50-200mm telephoto lens. I have just purchased aCanon EOS 5D camera without any lenses and I have been trying to get a lens converter to enable me to use my range of Zuiko lenses on the Canon 5D. As you are no doubt aware the Canon 5D has a 35mm sensor and there is no cropping, I had a loan of a Canon 24-105mm lens to take some shots and they were just incredible in the sharpness, colour and there was NO cropping.

Can you please tell me where I can get a converter ring so that I can use the range of Zuiko lenses that I have with my new Canon EOS 5D camera. There are some converter rings on E-Bay but they are for the Olympus OM range of lenses. I purchased one and the ED and SWD range of Olympus Zuiko lenses did not even screw onto the adapter.

I thany you in advance for any assistance that you could give me in locating this somewhat rare converter ring for my Zuiko lenses to my CanonEOS 5D camera.

    Kind Regards.

    Mike.

Hi Michael – thanks for the comment. Congrats on getting some great glass to go with your gear. I used the predecessor to the 12-60 (the 14-54) and thought it was one of the price / performance zooms available on any camera, so no doubt the 12-60 is great too.

As for your desire to mount Oly glass on a FF sensor – unfortunately, it can’t be done. At least not effectively. The imaging circle of the Oly glass (which is made for cropped sensors) is too small for the full frame sensor of the 5D. So even if you could physically mount it, you’d like have huge vignetting. It’s a mute point though as I’ve never seen an adapter that does this. Let me know if you find out any information to the contrary
