Untitled

This weekend I drove a 9 hour round trip to find a waterfall I’d read about. We got there a little later than I expected and by the time we hiked over to see it, I realised we were on the wrong side of a ravine and the waterfall was impossible to get to. I’m sure there’s a way down there, and I will go back – but ended up with no real photos.
Instead, I took this on Sunday – 5 mins from my house.

A Morning Before Work

My first colour shots with the Pentax 67ii.
I’ve been waking up to spectacular sunrises recently and on Thursday I decided to chance it, get up earlier at 6am and drive out in the hope I’d be lucky with the weather. The sunrise certainly didn’t disappoint – clear skies, just enough cloud and beautiful pink hues. I drove over to Lake Washington (which is on my way to work) and as I walked down to the lake, the colours were starting to reach their most intense. Someone was already down by …

Seattle Streets

I met an Irish photographer in Seattle the other day who happens to live here. He was carrying his treasuerd Leica which he was obviously happy with. We talked briefly and he made the comment that was the best place in the world to do street photography. I was surprised. Compared to the places I’ve been I find Seattle to be fairly run of the mill. It’s a wonderful city to live, with close access to the mountains, sea, etc – but for true street photographer, it doesn’t come close …

This is a monkfish

This is a monkfish. I found this shot on recent archives and wanted to do a post today so I thought I’d include an image.
This was taken while walking through Seattle’s famous Pike’s Market.
And people wonder why I’m a vegetarian :)

The Trees

A quick shot from my Hasselblad 500 CM this weekend while walking around on Sat morning. This was on a quick stroll through Marymoor Park – there wasn’t that much going on as I walked along a tree lined path so sometimes it helps to look upwards (or shoot from the floor). The main goal was to use up a roll of 120 so I could try developing again but I ended up with a couple of shots I felt like sharing. Here’s two – shot using the Hasselblad 500 …

Develop, Success

I learned photography using DSLR’s, never shot film in my life growing up and so I’m still pretty new to it. However, I’m getting introduced pretty quickly and shot about 30 – 50 rolls in the last 5 months of 2009. I’m still a complete novice when it comes developing though and my few attempts with developing B&W film have ended with unsatisfactory results with lots of white specs on the negative, etc.
That bad run ended today when I tried developing medium format (120) film for the first time, this …

Freezing Saturday Evening

These are shots from last week, following up from my post containing images from that same morning. I must have been feeling particularly trigger happy that day because a roll of Velvia will normally last me a full weekend. I’m still somewhat new to Velvia and getting used to how it renders colours and deals with dynamic range (especially when compared to negative films). I do love it though and it’s always a hard decision for me whether to load up a roll of Ektar or this. Anyway, here are …

Exploring the Area

Since I moved to Seattle, there’s been very little time to explore the surrounding areas. First there was the snow, and then the general lack of time as we moved into a new house. In fact, this weekend was the…
