THOUGHTS ON TECH, PHOTOGRAPHY AND MINDFULNESS

Bing "Re-Imagined" For Windows 8.1: More Beautiful, Comprehensive And Integrated

Another big announce for the team

My favourite ten photos from my 24 hours in the Palouse last weekend. All photos taken with the Fuji X-E1 and a combination of the awesome 18-55 kit lens, the 35mm f1.4 (the two dog portraits) and an old Olympus Zuiko OM 200mm lens (with an OM->X adapter).

Driving thru the Palouse in Easter WA on Saturday. I love that area - and I love these scenes. This one reminded me of that default background on Windows XP (I think it was that version).

My kind of Sat / Sun. Woke up at 5am yesterday to drive 250 miles East to The Palouse. Shot some photos during the day, slept in the car with the dogs overnight and woke up to this, this morning. Just got back to Seattle. More photos coming.
This was shot with my new X-E1 with the 18-55 kit. I should post the original as it was almost pitch black (I didn’t have any graduated filters so had to massively underexpose). Didn’t think I’d be able to pull anywhere near this level of detail out of the shadows. That is quite a sensor on this camera.

First shots with the Fuji X-E1. Still gathering first impressions but v impressed with the handling, image quality and lenses so far (18-55 & 35mm f1.4).

A favourite from last weekend’s trip to the Oregon Coast. Akuri with Rio, looking out over a Cannon Beach sunset.

Another shot from last weekend. This time, just south of Cannon Beach in a place called Gearhart. An American Bald Eagle - with lunch in tow

From Cannon Beach last weekend. Two similar shots - the main difference being shutter speed. The first was handheld at a fast(ish) shutter. The second was with a BW 110 ND filter which reduces the light hitting the sensor by 1000x. As a result, I get to use a 30 second shutter speed in good daylight which has the effect of dramatically slowing down the clouds. Couldn’t decide which one I like the most so posting both. I think the first one is more dramatic, but the second is more dreamy. I’d prob go with that one in a decision.

Today we released an exciting new twist to the Bing homepage in conjunction with Star Trek Into Darkness. Sage Kitamorn from my team introduced it on the Bing Blog:

On the Bing homepage, our mission over the past 5 years has been to help you explore the world around you, to seek out new views and new angles. Today, we’re boldly going where no homepage has gone before. Visit Bing today and enter one of our secret phrases in the search box to be transported to the Final Frontier.

To see all of the fun things we have going on around Star Trek, check out yesterday’s post.  More importantly get out and go see the movie!

Live long and prosper.

Seeing as it’s been out for a few hours now, you should know how to trigger the new experience. Simply search for beam it on and enjoy! This experience picked up a lot of press. My favorite quote was from a Mashable article:

“Let it be known that today was the day Bing beat Google.”
